Sheet Metal Workers Local 28 Endorses Michael Blake for Congress (NY-15)

New York, NY – Today, Local 28 of the Sheet Metal Workers endorsed New York State Assembly Member Michael Blake in his bid to represent New York’s 15th Congressional District.”

Salvatore Starace, Financial Secretary-Treasurer/Recording Secretary of Local 28, said in a statement, “We’re proud to endorse Michael Blake for Congress. His record shows that he is a fighter for working people, from helping to pass the $15 state minimum wage to standing alongside unions as an advocate for safer workplaces and better benefits. We can’t wait to see him get to Congress and make our voices heard in Washington.”

Eric Meslin, President and Business Manager of the Local, added that “Michael shares our vision for better wages and benefits, apprenticeship programs that are a pathway to a lifelong career, better safety legislation and fighting for prevailing wages that have been overlooked for years. He has fought for working class families and strongly supported middle class jobs in the Bronx that helped keep pace with the cost of living in New York City. He is also committed to ensuring that pension plans remain strong, quality health care is afforded to all, and apprenticeship programs are maintained. Therefore, I am proud to endorse him for Congress in the 15th Congressional District.”

It is an honor to have the support of New York’s Sheet Metal Workers whose skills are critical to maintaining our city’s infrastructure. These employees deserve more recognition and appreciation for their hard work and craftsmanship. We all enjoy the fruits of their labor every day, and it’s time that elected officials recognize Local 28 and other workers across the state and country who do so much for our communities and yet too often struggle to earn a living wage.
